OLEHENRIKSEN x Influenster #OleGlow VoxBox Unboxing & First Impressions

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for the purposes of testing, and sharing my honest review.

Can we say EXCITEMENT?! I received my OLEHENRIKSEN x Influenster Voxbox a few days ago and I really can’t wait to see what this #OleGlow gonna be hitting for. Less than two weeks ago I was perusing the shelves of Sephora with the intention of spending these coints I was gifted for the holidays with Sephora’s name on ‘em. I was a gift card lol. Initially I went in with makeup on my mind but after being told that the shade I just knew was gonna be the perfect shade of Kat Von D foundation for me was not available for testing because there were only 2 left in stock?? *disappointed side eye*... Yeah I just wandered over to skin care.

OLEHENRIKSEN skin care was among some of the brands that peaked my interest. Some of those brands also peaked my heart beat. Fast forward to a few days later and up pops this Influenster opportunity to test out this skin care line and whaddya know, I qualified!!! 🙏  (Praises be!).

OLEHENRIKSEN IS notably very focused on including plant based, and therefore more naturally occurring, ingredients in their products. The line I received is the Balance line, which is geared toward oily/combination & acne prone skin. The tag line for the Balance line, "Why Shine When You can Glow" sets up my expectation for oil control with adequate moisture. This particular line has a proprietary combination of botanicals referred to as the Green Fusion Complex™, the main stars of which are neem oil and AHA’s (alpha-hydroxy acids). The complex also includes green tea, algae, Irish moss extract, natural antibacterials (very important for acne prone skin), as well as eucalyptus and peppermint. The last two power the fragrance profile of this entire line, so if minty fragrances aren’t your faves you’ll either have to put inhaling on pause when you use this or not use it at all. The fragrance is pretty strong - not a problem for me, but I’m just giving you the heads up. If you’re looking for an invigorating skin care line? Say no more.

The Find Your Balance™ Oil Control Cleanser boasts “deep cleansing action” to help “unclog and purify pores without stripping the skin…
Powerful glycolic and lactic acids help loosen and lift dead skin cells that can cause pore clogging buildup. Instantly, the complexion is refreshed and balanced with a healthy-looking Ole Glow™!” Free of parabens, sulfates, & phthalates. Noncomedogenic.

The Balancing Force™ Oil Control Toner is a concentrated astringent geared towards removing “excess oil and refines pores without stripping the skin. A blend of BHA’s (beta hydroxy acids) and AHA’s (salicylic, glycolic, and lactic acids) along with the Green Fusion Complex™ create “gentle clarifying action helps unclog, purify and minimize the appearance of pores.”

The Counter Balance™ Oil Control Hydrator (moisturizer) claims to hydrate, control oil, mattify and reduce the appearance of pores. The formula “helps keep pores clear and skin matte all day long while maintaining optimal hydration and a healthy balance” due to the active botanicals, natural antiseptic properties, neem seed oil, and AHA’s.  Free of parabens, sulfates, & phthalates. Noncomedogenic.

In this video of my unboxing I also share my first impressions and my plan for integrating the products into my skin care routine. I intend to swap these Ole products for all the corresponding Alba Botanica products (cleanser, astringent, moisturizing lotion) that I currently use. I plan to maintain the rest of my routine, including my use of liquid exfoliant (Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid), rose hydrating facial spray, supplementary Borghese moisturizing products, clay masks, sheet masks, & night time moisturizer.

I plan to use these products consistently for at least 28 days to see if these products are really who and what they say they are. At the end of my month long trial I’ll return with a review of my experience, and a comparison to my Alba Botanica faves. I have a sneaky feeling that Alba may be comparable, and the budget alternative to OLEHENRIKSEN's Balance line. And this hypothesis is purely based on the information I’ve read so far and comparing ingredients.

I’ve already tried the regimen once (on 2/28 because I could not wait for March 1st… too hyped!) , and decided to use just the three products (something I may do for the next 5 days) along with my liquid exfoliant, and so far here are my impressions:

Cleanser: A little goes a very long way. I used a dot the size of the hole in binder/folder paper and it lathered extremely well, as I expected it would. While in the video I mentioned it being a gel, there is a silken characteristic to it. It looks reminds me of those shampoos that have pearlized or silk proteins but that characteristic is not as concentrated in the cleanser as it is in those shampoos. Very minty and invigorating.

Toner: WOW! I don’t think my face has ever felt that fresh ever in my life. The fragrance was strong, and the minty cool sensation LASTED, and was intense, but not in a bad way! It felt like what I think one’s mouth would feel like if you chewed 5 brand new sticks of minty gum at the same damn time. Baby! It got all the dirt off my face - my cotton square was JUDGING ME! I was able to make mental comparisons to the Alba Botanica Astringent at this point. This toner took me by surprise as it as not as drying as one would expect with a fragrance that minty (which is often indicative of high alcohol content).  Noticeably mattifying with a slight tightening of skin that was not related to dryness at all.

Moisturizer: Superbly lightweight & extremely mattifying without being drying. Again tautness to the skin but without any indication of dryness. I’m writing this 9 hours after using the product. At this point my face would be shiny enough to see your own reflection in it. When I wipe my forehead my fingers glow as opposed to coming away with slippery oily grease.

My Day 1 result has me super hyped for the next 28 days so keep your eyes on this space! Hop in the comments below and let me know if you’ve tried or you’re thinking about trying any OLEHENRIKSEN products!

Peace, & see you in the next one!
